We Sing as We Go

Over on Parent Hacks, Asha has been collecting tips for summer time travel and camping with kids. We've been traveling a lot this summer, driving back and forth to Arkansas so the kids can each have a week with their grandparents all to themselves. This has the added bonus of spending a few hours at the Lake every weekend! Hurray for everyone, right?

Back in December before we went to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl, the Husband made a CD full of tunes that we all know by heart. It's amazing how fast time passes as we travel along, everyone singing loudly and half out of tune.

Partial playlist (from memory):
  • Duncan Sheik - Barely Breathing, She Runs Away
  • Indigo Girls - Closer to Fine, Kid Fears
  • Maroon 5 - Harder to Breathe
  • the Urge- Four Letters and Two Words
  • Jack Johnson - Better Together
  • Guggenheim Grotto - And A Tear Isn't a Bad Thing
  • REM - Driver 8
A few songs on the list I'm developing (suggestions, anyone?):
  • Johnny Cash - Personal Jesus
  • Eve 6 - Jet Pack
  • REM - Swan Swan H
  • Throwing Muses - Counting Backwards
The Husband's tips:
  • Keep the vocals in the tenor/alto range.
  • Include a variety of musical styles. I couldn't remember the whole list from the disk above, but there's hard rock, pop, ska, fast, slow.
  • Make it music everyone enjoys, including especially the adults.

hmmm...I can't say that I know any of those...guess it's a good thing my girls are 1 and 3, so they can't consider me unhip...plenty of time till I have to know what's current when they are teens!
